Day 8 – 13 July 2014

The sunshine came out today for the students. They had a free day today so they went in different directions. Quique went to visit his uncle. Marta and Mercedes went to visit their friends in Malahide and the rest of the group went into the city centre to the street entertainers' festival.

The new girls Mar and Teresita arrived today. I took them to their host family and showed them where the other students live. They then joined the group going to the city centre.

The students are very settled in Ireland now and feel comfortable and confident that they know where they are going and how to get there.

We had a grey start to the day today but thankfully the rain didn’t last too long.

We met this morning at the church near the school to go on our excursion. First we went to visit Ardgillan Castle which is an old demesne house in north county Dublin. The house has been restored in recent years and the gardens are beautifully groomed! The castle is also worth visiting to see the view of Dublin Bay.

Afterwards we went to the mills in Skerries and learned about how bread was made in the past. We were also lucky enough to come across a farmers market and an art gallery. It was a great cultural day for everybody!

Day 6 – 11 July 2014

The students enjoyed a cultural lesson in English class today. Some of them learned about Michael Collins and others learned about James Joyce.

All week the students were looking forward to having free time in the city centre. After class today they had a plan to visit The Hard Rock Café, Abercrombie and Hollister!

When I asked them how the food was in their host family I was surprised by their lack of complaints! They’ve been eating spaghetti, rice, chicken and lots of potatoes!!

I’m very happy that they have made friends with the French group. They are making a big effort to speak English!
